

Officially known as Tygart Dam but sometimes referred to as the Grafton Flood Dam as shown in this postcard, the structure was constructed between 1935 and 1938 to combat both major flooding and severe droughts in the area.
Today, Tygart Lake is a popular destination for anglers and scuba divers.

While unmailed, the postcard’s date can be established by its identification number on the front of the card. It was published in 1938, the year the dam was completed.
