West Virginia University, the real-life counterpart of Vault-Tec University, opened its doors in 1867. Originally called the Agricultural College of West Virginia, it was renamed to West Virginia University in 1868 to reflect a broader educational program than strictly agricultural.
The north wing of the school, including what would eventually be named Woodburn Hall, was added in 1909, and the tower and Seth Thomas clock was added in 1930.
Notable WVU alumni include Don Knotts (actor, The Andy Griffith Show), Steve Harvey (host, Family Feud, 2010-present), Billy Mays (infomercial king), John A. Russo (co-writer of Night of the Living Dead), Chris Sarandon (actor, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Princess Bride), and Katherine Johnson (NASA “human computer” who was the subject of the 2016 film Hidden Figures).

This postcard was never mailed so its exact age is unknown, but based on the catalogue number, this was likely published in the late 1930s to early 1940s.
