Named for the indigenous Seneca peoples of the region, Seneca Rocks is formed from ocean sediments deposited 425 million years ago.

The cliffs were used to train U.S. soldiers combat in mountainous terrain in 1943 and 1944, and at least 15 climbers have died since the 1960s while attempting to conquer the Rocks.

The year on the cancellation stamp is illegible but based on the style of the postcard, the postage rate, and the photographer, it’s likely to have been published in the mid-1960s.
